By state
We report two independent facts side by side and do not rank states. A larger count reflects the size of a state's inventory and its reporting activity, not a judgment about water safety.

How we compute this
We diff two consecutive federal SDWIS snapshots and report, per state, the count of unknown-material lines reclassified and the number of systems that completed an inventory. The table lists states alphabetically.
We report two independent facts side by side and do not rank states. A larger count reflects both the size of a state's inventory and its reporting activity, not a judgment about water safety.
EPA region codes and tribal entries are excluded from the state table so each row is a single U.S. state or equivalent.
