Certified Safe Water Badge Program
Showcase your city's water quality achievement. Free badges for communities that meet high safety standards based on EPA data.
How It Works
ZipCheckup analyzes EPA drinking water data for thousands of ZIP codes across the United States. Communities that meet our safety thresholds receive a Certified Safe Water badge that can be displayed on city websites, utility pages, and municipal communications.
The badge links back to the community's detailed water quality report on ZipCheckup, giving residents easy access to the data behind the certification.
Eligibility Criteria
Badges are awarded based on our Home Safety Score, a composite 0–100 rating that evaluates water systems on EPA violations, contaminant levels, lead risk, and infrastructure age.
Grade A — Excellent
Home Safety Score of 85 or higher. Minimal violations, low contaminant levels, and strong water infrastructure.
Grade B — Good
Home Safety Score between 70 and 84. Low violation count with generally safe contaminant levels.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Home Safety Score calculated?
The score is a composite 0–100 rating based on EPA violation history, contaminant levels, lead and copper data, infrastructure age, and environmental factors. Read our full methodology.
How often are scores updated?
Scores are recalculated when new EPA data becomes available, typically quarterly. A community's badge status may change if their score drops below the threshold.
Is this an official EPA certification?
No. ZipCheckup is an independent platform. Our badges are based on our analysis of publicly available EPA data, not an official government certification. We are transparent about our methodology.
My city should qualify but isn't listed. What do I do?
Our database covers thousands of ZIP codes but not every water system. If you believe your city is missing, contact us and we'll investigate.
Can I modify the badge design?
The standard badge should be used as-is to maintain consistency. For custom branding requests (e.g., adding a city seal), contact us at [email protected].
Does the badge cost anything?
No. The Certified Safe Water badge is completely free. Our goal is to help communities communicate water safety to residents.
