Red Flag Warning issued September 9 at 12:58PM MDT until September 10 at 9:00PM MDT by NWS Riverton WY

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Thursday.
  • AFFECTED AREA: In Central WY Fire Zone....288. In North Central WY Fire Zone....287. In Northwest WY Fire Zone....286.

  • COUNTIES AFFECTED: In Central WY...Fremont. In North Central WY...Hot Springs...Park. In West Central WY...Sublette.

  • IMPACTS: Low Humidities and Strong Gusty Winds could cause erratic fire behavior.

  • WIND: West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph.

  • HUMIDITY: As low as 12 to 15 percent, especially at elevations below 10,000 feet. RH recovery will be poor at elevations below 9,000 feet.

What to do: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

  • COUNTIES AFFECTED: In Southwest WY...Sweetwater...Uinta. In West Central WY...Lincoln...Sublette.

  • IMPACTS: Low Humidities and Strong Gusty Winds could cause erratic fire behavior.

  • WIND: West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph. Thursday, west 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph.

  • HUMIDITY: As low as 10 percent. RH recovery will be fair to poor tonight in zones 277 and 279.

  • IMPACTS: Low Humidities and Strong Gusty Winds could cause erratic fire behavior.

  • WIND: West 12 to 18 mph with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph. Thursday, west to southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 to 40 mph.

  • HUMIDITY: As low as 8 percent. Thursday, as low as 6 to 8 percent. RH recovery will be poor tonight.

Red Flag Warning issued September 9 at 12:01PM MDT until September 10 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS Cheyenne WY

- AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zones 419, 420, 421, 422, 425, and 427\.
  • WIND...Westerly 15 to 30 MPH with occasional gusts up to 40 MPH. The strongest winds will occur Thursday afternoon.

  • HUMIDITY...10 to 15% Wednesday afternoon and as low as 5% Thursday afternoon. Poor overnight recoveries Wednesday and Thursday night, as low as 20% to 30%.

  • IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
