WHAT...Heat index values up to 105.
WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Illinois and central, east central, and southeast Missouri.
WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Tuesday.
IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
Qué hacer: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in Springfield Illinois has issued a Air Quality Action Day for ground level ozone and fine particulates, until midnight CDT tonight.
An Areawide Air Pollution Action Day is declared when weather conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are forecast to be at OR ABOVE the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category in all or nearly all Illinois AQI forecast sectors.
Areas both inside and outside of the Action Day coverage area may experience smoke/PM2.5 today into tonight. Those with air quality concerns or anyone in Illinois with outdoor plans is encouraged to check current NowCast readings or sign up for EnviroFlash alerts on AirNow.gov. Before going outside, checking the NowCast AQI will help identify periods of both poor and cleaner air quality regardless of the level of the daily forecasted AQI.

Smoke may also linger across much of Illinois Monday.
