Flood Watch (VIGILANCIA) - expira July 19, 2026 at 9:00 PM EDT

Flood Watch issued July 18 at 3:19PM AKDT until July 21 at 10:00AM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK

  • WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

  • WHERE...Seward.

  • WHEN...From early Sunday morning through Tuesday morning.

  • IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  • A long duration rain event coinciding with an atmospheric river of moisture moving over the southern Kenai Peninsula will result in moderate to heavy rain for Seward Saturday evening through Monday night. 3 to 5 inches of rain is likely (70-80%) with a low chance (20%) of up to 6 inches of rain for this event. The heaviest rain will likely occur between Sunday morning and Monday morning, with the bulk of the rain falling during this time period.

  • WHAT...Hot temperatures as high as 80 degrees expected.

  • WHERE...Central Arctic Plains and Western Arctic Plains.

  • WHEN...From 10 AM to 10 PM AKDT Monday.

  • IMPACTS...Individuals not accustomed to these unusually hot temperatures for this region may experience heat related illnesses.

Qué hacer: Drink plenty of fluids and check up on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances as vehicle interiors can reach extreme temperatures in as little as 10 minutes.

Take extra precautions when working in the sun. Wear sunscreen and lightweight, loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
